"The relations between Iran and Oman are strategic and Oman will not be affected by any country in its policies towards Iran," bin Alawi told FNA, adding that Oman "moves on the basis of joint cooperation, stability and regional security which form the tenets of the country's foreign policies."
The Omani minister also announced that he would pay a visit to Iran next month to confer with Iranian officials on ways to develop Tehran-Masqat ties and utilize both countries' potentials.
Referring to the recent visit by Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said to Iran, bin Alawi underlined that the trip was a reconfirmation of Oman's readiness to develop cooperation with Tehran in all the different fields.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sultan Qaboos during their meeting in Tehran in August signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements.
The MoUs signed by the two countries' leaders in August contained the framework for expansion of economic ties, oil cooperation between Iranian Hirbodan Company and Omani Oil Company and establishment of a petrochemical company.
The two sides also inked four agreements on security cooperation for exchange of information, combat against smuggling and organized crimes, avoidance of double taxation on investment, cultural cooperation and establishment of a Persian Language teaching center in Masqat.
